NY never picks up call (passport, pio & receptions) or replies to mail.
Wait times in person are horrible - 5-6 hours. only 1 person to serve all the people for passports, pio /oci cards etc.
Their turnaround time is pretty good.
I prefer to deal with via postal even though it is walkable distance from my work.

I can second that. I do have an inactive discover card (I have not activated the new cards they sent to me as I have better cards to use). I have had discover cards for years. Just recently, a person from Discover Card called me to offer me those 5% reward cards. I said sure. Then she asked me if I was a citizen. Then she asked if I was a permanent resident. After two nos, she said then I can't give you the card.
Discover does not issue a credit card if you are not a PR or citizen..even though you have good credit history..

Whatever IV is doing fine, nobody here denies that. But here are few points which I think eveybody else is trying to convey, which somehow you don't understand:
1. This site has an open forum where not only active members of IV, but other people (cowerds, that is what you think, you out-spoken fellow) also seek advice, share their experiences and hence help each other. And mind you, because of these all people, IV and this site also get so much popular.
2. The other point is WHY YOU PUSH SO MUCH FOR HELP. I think everybody understands the efforts of IV, but let the person decide himself/herself whether he/she wants to give money, go to DC ralley or not. Help is not demanded.
3. Please mind your language. I don't know why you have so much of anger and you use abusive, disturbing language for others. Its very easy to say a F* word, but very difficult to sort out others problems in decent and graceful manner. Guys we see a very unhealthy trend here where any disagreement is not tolerated. This forum is for legal skilled immigrants and we sometimes show how unskilled we are when it comes to tolerance of opinion here.

The data itself shows that the overwhelming number of skilled immigrants come from India/China. If the objective is to let the most skilled immigrants in, then the US should forget about diversity. Unfortunately in terms of volume and talent combined, India and China handily beat the rest of the world. Even if EB3 goes to 2002 so be it, but at least you are treating all skilled immigrants on a level playing field rather than discriminating them based on where they were born. If the US continues to do this, there is a serious danger (and this has been documented) that skilled folks in India/China will no longer find the US attractive. Its already happening with the economy booming in India. In fact, we'll probably see you or your kids standing in line for an Indian or Chinese green card in a few years (and I doubt India or China will focus on diversity when it comes to attracting the most skilled talent).
The last line is only a Dream.. I value your opinion, and wish that to happem. as they say Sounds Good, given the situation Political and economic in India and China it will never ever happen. I dont think we could expect such thing from our community as we are born selfish and scared of things. Everone is just hoping that some miracle will happen and everyone will get their GCs. Or else people are happy with EAD/h1b renewals.We really lack the kind of leadership and atitude we had before independece both at home in india and here.I think people have made immigration problems as part of the many problems they have in their lives.
Leave alone ABCDs, Vinodh Khosla ka Ghosla, or Jindals or all the big shots ATA or TANA.
For a moment - lets look at our own community that is affected.

The backlogs seem to be close to a million and look at the number of people trying to do something about the situation. Anti immigrants paint us in bad light, media confuses our issues and writes rubbish, Lou Dobbs makes baseless comments and everyone in our community does nothing but trying to track EAD etc... A handful of people make phone calls, a handful send letters, a handful help IV. Others just sit and watch and pretend they don't know anything. When we make request to join state chapters very few join. Out of that very few actively participate in activities. When IIV asks people to enter a correct profile - very few do it.
Things will improve ONLY of the entire community stands up on their own without expecting others to do something for them

Visa number is allocated when the case is finally adjudicated. Hence, they will certainly eat up visa numbers. Maybe for EB 10 - 15 K and rest for FB. Just a guess.

This is a very valid point. If employer or his lawyer asks more money in fees for filing I485 it is always better to go thro employer if he files I485 promptly. But if the delay is intention of the employer then use your own Lawyer.

First of all, not everyone here is from India. Second, not everyone here is from programming/IT background. It is easy to make that assumption, but believe me, there are plenty of non-indians, or non-IT people, and even non-Indian, non-IT people here. :D
For these, what is or is not happening in Bangalore is completely irrelevant.
Second, people who are still here have already decided where they want to be. (Which is why they are on the forum in the first place). People change countries for more reasons than just following the next IT boom.
Anyway, regarding impact on opportunities here, there is a common misconception that companies have unlimited access to talent in other countries, and the only limiting factor is the quota of H1B visas.
Not true, by a long shot.
To give a simple example, our company is looking for people in Australia, Denmark, Finland, Canada and UK since the pool of qualified people in India has dried up in our field. Can anyone guess where is the biggest talent pool? Nope, not in Bangalore, its right here in USA!! Not all companies are looking for the cheapest person. They are looking for the best person. And in many cases, the best person is already here, and has gathered more experience over the years working for US companies. But they cannot hire her, simply because she is on a visa and thereby beholden to another company. If she had a GC, that would free up the talent pool and thereby make many companies less reliant on H1Bs. Increasing GCs for EB candidates has the same effect as increasing H1 quota, with the added benefit of making the cream of the crop available and reducing the uncertainty and hassle of hiring an H1.
When you outsource, you lose this talent pool which is already sitting in your backyard. You may still outsource, of course, but the most cost effective solution would be to hire the top talent already here. This is especially true in professions which do not work very well in outsourced situations, like business consulting, marketing, management etc.
This is why it is in the best interest of companies to support EB GCs.

I went thru COBRA for the last 2 months I tell you its a PAIN IN THE A##.
Yeah premiums are very high. due to some gross miscommuniation on the provider they cancelled my COBRA for december since they didnt recieve payment.
ONce you quit our current job, you will get within 7-10 days details from ur current insurance cpmpany or a third party administrator which ur company uses. They will also send a payment coupon. (not a discount coupon..).
I hope your new company is paying the COBRA reimbursements for you...if not there is a loop hole in COBRA taht you can use and NOT pay the payments since you will have grace period. HOWEVER please keep in mind that the new insurance with your new company may have some restrictions on pre existing conditions...so keep an eye on that..since its for 30 days you will get on to a new insurance personally I wouldnt care for CBORA if the premiums are too high, why becuase, remember the coverage is RETROACTIVE, so you can get a claim reimbursed later after within the grace period

Since no one in America does much of anything in December I am planning to start trying with congressmans office in mid Jan. I have to do something and try - I cant keep sitting hands folded. Or they will say quota is over before we know it - remember ROW is at 2005.

There is a simple form, Form DHS-7001, fill it and send to Ombudsman (address to send to is on the form - you can search for the form). They forward it to your Service Center for an answer within 45 days. If your dates remain current for this 45 day period, there is a chance that your Service Center will look at your case. If not, Service Center may just wait until your dates are retrogressed again and send a standard reply that you are not current.
Taking an InfoPass might initiate some action too.

Before I approach Ombudsman is it wise to get any sort of clearence or green signal from your lawyer ? Can you approach them directly without a lawyer ?

I think the DHS-7001 form needs to be signed by the HR of your company.So I guess your company/lawyer will need to be involved.

I have old I 140 approval notice, Is it necessary to send the old I 140 approval while interfiling. What if the old company withdraw old I 140, How can I interfile in that situation.
Doesn't matter. You interfile based on priority date and once a 14 0 is approved, your PD remains yours - even if it is revoked later.
