Despite regular statements by pundits that lawmakers can't move an immigration reform bill in the middle of a recession, several recent polls show the public not only is ready, but that support for reform has actually been INCREASING. I've blogged on recent ABC/Washington Post and CBS/NY Times polls and yesterday I listened in on a media conference call hosted by the pro-immigration advocacy group America's Voice that featured Pete Brodnitz of the firm Benenson Strategy Group and Celinda Lake of Lake Research Partners who discussed their recent public opinion research. Benenson's firm has done recent polling on the subject and...

Actually, its preferable - saves money and shows DOL that there are multiple openings, not just one.

Immigration lawmakers try to pick winners and losers. The problem is that just like a broken analog clock with its hands frozen in place, the timing is mostly wrong. This brings me to one of my pet peeves. It bothers me that the immigration laws and agency regulations favor some fields of study and disfavor others. Why for example are students in the STEM subjects(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) given 27 months of "optional practical training" -- a euphemism for work permission --- while liberal arts students get only 12 months? Do Congress and the immigration agencies think we have...

This evening, I watched a debate on television between a proponent and an opponent of comprehensive immigration reform (CIR). The proponent emphasized that we need CIR not for the benefit of the undocumented but because it would stimulate the American economy. The opponent said that this amounted to "open borders" and that our immigration system was already generous enough in the eyes of most Americans. After the debate, I got to thinking about how different this type of debate is from the daily travails of immigrants. In our complex immigration system, the problems are not necessarily black and white, but...

Hi,
I apologize if I am asking a repeat question.
I received my green card a few months ago but my family haven't received their's yet. As a result they are still using EAD and/or Advance Parole documents. I am considering a job change and in that context I have two questions:
1. Are there any gotchas that I should be aware of - given that my family's cases haven't been approved yet.
2. If I do change jobs, can I apply for EAD and Advance Parole documents for my family on my own? Meaning, without going through the employer.
Thanks for your time.
